Professor Morris is THE BEST. The way she explains things just clicks and she always thinks of ways of how students can understand the topics not just how she understands them. The guided notes that Morris provides for each topic is literally all you need to study to get an A in the class. The homework each week is not difficult. The midterms and final had no shocks, just strictly things done on the notes. Morris can turn any boring subject into a fun and engaging one. Cannot recommend her enough. There's a reason all her classes fill up so fast.
Took Morris for linear algebra. She was very considerate of her students, dropped more than enough homework assignments and quizzes. Her lectures were good, felt like I learned the material well. Homework usually took me roughly 2-3 hours a week. My one complaint, the partial credit grading on the exams were annoyingly harsh.
Professor Morris is one of the best APMA teachers in UVA. If you come to class and prepare a little every week, you'll have no trouble in this class!
+ printed fill in the blank notes
+ never read textbook
+ 2 hours of HW a week if you concentrate
+ drop quizzes and homeworks
- Controversial, but you'll miss classwork points if you skip some classes
Morris is the bomb! Rule of thumb is to take any math class with her. This class is primarily an introduction to Linear algebra and introduces the fundamentals (independence, spanning, basis, orthogonality) and delves into a couple practical applications (linear regression, fourier approximation, gram-schmidt). For ECE and CS students, linear algebra will be important to understanding the theory behind machine learning, fourier approximations, and various other algorithms.
Best APMA course with the best APMA professor. Take linear after differential equations and the material essentially for the first exam you've already all seen, but be sure to attend all of Prof. Morris' lectures and make sure you understand the material covered in class and the homework.
As usual, Morris goes above and beyond to ensure students know what they need to know, helping with difficult or confusing homework problems during lecture time and holding fantastic office hours. Start the weekly homework assignments a few days early so you can go to her with specific questions if needed, but generally I found linear to make more sense than any other class, especially with the way Morris explains the material.
I cannot recommend this class or this professor enough - there's a good reason her classes fill up first.
Professor Morris is amazing! She explains the important concepts and skips the trivial or not really important stuff. She makes sure to let you know the important things you will need to remember. Homework is weekly. Quizzes are every other week. She gives an extensive review sheet before each quiz and basically takes her problems from there. Before the test, she gives a practice exam for which she also provides a thorough review sheet. The practice exam is in groups. The class isn't the easiest but it is also definitely not the hardest. Professor Morris makes sure of that.
Professor Morris is by far the best APMA teacher I've had.
She really tries to make the material understandable and does a good job of it.
Linear algebra is pretty straightforward and none of the concepts are particularly hard. So do the work and spend the time to understand and this should be a breeze.
