I would definitely recommend this class. I was expecting a dry and straight memorization of complex signalling pathways but it was NOT THAT AT ALL. Deppmann focuses on the basics and foundations of signalling pathways and the modular pieces that make them unique and functional. The first midterm is a basic understanding of pieces within a general pathway and the second midterm covers different pieces and how they fit together to create a variety of pathways throughout the body. The last 3rd of the class is completely student taught by presentations on signaling pathways involved in topics of choice such as cancer, drug abuse, etc. At the end of this course you understand most signaling pathways utilized in biological systems and the pieces that make up these systems. The grading is 2 midterms and a final (we chose to drop one of these exams), a presentation grade, and a final write up. There are weekly pop quizzes on the reading for that class which were annoying but definitely doable. Would definitely recommend this class and Prof. Deppmann is an awesome guy who you should have at least once.
