I would absolutely recommend this course to any advanced undergraduate who wants to challenge themselves with graduate level astronomy coursework. The class has an emphasis on high energy phenomena in astrophysics, in addition to focusing on the more challenging mathematical methods that are used to understand those objects.
Professor Shane Davis is a phenomenal lecturer, whose humor and knowledge are excellently synthesized in this course. He clearly communicated course expectations and guidelines, and did a wonderful job lecturing about a variety of applicable and interesting topics. He was aware that some undergraduates were taking the course, and did a good job making sure that base knowledge was also covered when talking about advanced topics.
The homework's, which composed 80% of the grade, were challenging and time consuming, but also very fun and incredibly rewarding to complete. This class also had a final project worth 20% of the grade that consisted of a 5-page paper and a presentation on an observational method of the student's choice; this was also quite fun, and Professor Davis provided adequate and fair feedback to every student.
I took this class as an undergraduate and cannot recommend it enough!
