Adorable and passionate professor, makes himself very approachable to students outside of class and genuinely wants to help you with the class/his career. Can be a bit condescending sometimes as the reviewer below said but it's definitely made up for by his approachability. Class attendance is a must, he'll tell you everything you need to know for the exam and re-emphasizes points a lot just to make sure you get the point of the unit. He definitely brought a boring sounding subject to life. However, the ARTSTOR OIV presentations were kind of clunky and I didn't like how he made one of the required books something available only on course reserve at the A-School library, meaning that towards the end of the semester it was a matter of chance as to whether or not you could check it out.
Every week, you only have to write one 1 page critical response paper, but the readings he provides on Collab are a bit too long and specific for the scope of the course. That being said, he basically provides you with potential sources for your final paper and is happy to help discuss it with you. Would also recommend making flashcards ahead of time, as memorizing the 50 slides (with dates, folio numbers, etc., like any art history class) is probably the hardest part about this class. You can reasonably get an A as long as you put the time and effort in.
This class has a midterm term and final (IDs, short answer and an essay from a provided list of 50 non-cumulative images). There is also a final essay of 5 pages (however, he will provide you with all the necessary sources AND will read first drafts).
Ramirez-Weaver is THE BOMB. I've taken multiple class with him. He is a great lecturer and INCREDIBLY knowledgable. He speaks every single second of class and has something relevant and interesting to say everything second. He does use kind of a pompous vocabulary (he was a philosophy major), but he answers questions and is very excited and playful. His office hours are one of the most used I've ever seen. The TA was really helpful at organizing the material and covering important facts. However, he is a little overambitious with the reading and his expectations of the class (but you can get away with not doing the reading).
I got an A- in this class.
