The Spring 2015 section was unique in that Prof. Dobrin flew a speaker of Arapesh directly from Papua New Guinea. Usually, the person whose language is studied is a student in CVille. The course's structure was simple: from elicitation data from a native speaker, construct a grammar sketch. This is a lot more daunting than completing problem sets, as nearly every other linguistics class has you do. If you're looking for a way to tie together what you've learned in linguistics classes, take this course.
