Professor Metcalf is a great professor and offers a great insight on a broad range of topics. The material is cool to learn about, but I mostly liked this class just for getting to enjoy his lectures. Tests were a bit arbitrarily graded but you can do well in this class without much work.

The lectures are very interesting. You learn a little bit about lots of different things

I found the lectures incredibly boring. It seemed like the department just gave Metcalf to run wild with. He fails to adequately describe how what he's talking about ties into the theme of the course. Instead, it appears like he's just picking random subjects in anthropology at his discretion and talking about them for a while before moving onto something else.

Awesome class. Peter Metcalf is an awesome professor; he's this hilarious man with a British accent. Went to Harvard, too, so he's pretty smart. Really nice guy and really interesting lectures. Awesome life experiences as an anthropologist. Don't need to do assigned readings to get an A in the class (just do them if you have time). Tests are straight from lecture and comprise 80% of your grade. I loved this class and would definitely recommend you take it.

Very enjoyable class. Metcalf is funny and engaging (which is helped by Kiwi accent). Discussions are the usual. Very eclectic reading selections that give you a very wide perspective on anthropology as an intro course.

Absolutely love Metcalf and would recommend the class to almost anyone.
