Ma is a great professor to take ODE with. The class is set up to have you learn through doing pre-class assignments and in-class assignments with a group. Professor Ma would also give us discussion notes and short lectures on the material, which not all the other professors did, and they were really helpful. On top of the worksheets, webwork was due once a week, as well as a written homework packet. The written homework was the most time-consuming assignment, but going to professor office hours was helpful. The exams were challenging, but not impossible.
Ma is a great professor who is extremely caring and helpful, but the course was structure quite aggressively (Ma didn't decide the course structure, so it's not her fault). I enjoy the self-teaching format of this course, but the in-class worksheets would often be too long so I almost always had to ignore Ma's lectures and work on the worksheet in order to get it finished in time. I'm pretty good at math and studied intensely for the tests, but I still struggled on the exams because a lot of the questions failed to match up with the types of problems we had practice with. I understand making sure the student can problem-solve, but we were not given the tools to succeed.
