Professor Weber is so nice! Her classes are primarily based on small group discussions followed by sharing your conclusions with the rest of the class. The readings can take a while but it is possible to skim. Sometimes we would read critical articles about what we'd been reading and bring summaries to class. We also had to submit a discussion question online every other class (we were split into two groups) which would then be used in the discussion. We had 2 1000 word essays and one 2000 word one, which involved using 2-3 critical articles to back up your argument. The midterm was essay questions (3 I think) and the final will only be on what we've read since the midterm; it will also be take home and open book/note, and we will have a week to submit it online. Professor Weber was more than fair grading-wise, though she is strict-ish about grammar (this is a literature course though!). I would definitely recommend this course.
Professor Weber is one of the nicest and sweetest Spanish professors at UVA. All she wants is for everyone in the class to participate and immerse themselves in the literature. She is very strict on grammar, but she's so helpful if you go to see her about your mistakes and usually lets you correct them for some points back. Sometimes the reading is a lot but it's easy to skim through some or you can always check out translations - she reserves a bunch in Clemons because all she really wants is for your to understand the mindset of writers during the Golden Age. Other than 2 4-5 page papers and 1 6-7 page paper, the only other work is a post on Collab once a week of approximately 100 words. I really loved having Professor Weber and even if the class was boring sometimes, she made it worth it! This is a great way to fulfill a literature requirement!
