Enjoyable class, if a bit disorganized. Nemec likes to bring in his own personal experiences to bring home the messages in the texts. Of course, a lot of that amounts to random tangents, but that's what keeps his classes interesting. Would recommend taking a class with him!

Nemec is awesome. He is one of the most enthusiastic and entertaining professors I've ever had, and he made the class really entertaining. His lectures were great, and he went off on tangents that were funny and pretty informative. The 2 papers were kind of intimidating, but Nemec and Adam are both available and more than willing to help you and give you advice. Take the class.

Nemec was awesome. Best prof I've had so far at UVa. The in class discussion was on the reading, but you could get away with skimming if you were in a time crunch. The readings themselves (with the exception of the first week or so) were really interesting. Your grade is pretty straightforward: 2 6-8 pg papers with 1 in class presentation. Nothing tricky.

Class discussions are a big part of this course, so it helps to have done all the reading. The class was more about classical literature rather than modern literature, but the readings were all very accessible and very interesting. Nemec was engaging in class and very approachable outside of it, especially if you needed help writing the papers.
