Do not take this unless you are a religious studies major. The professor's lectures literally define the word boring. The professor basically reads off of her notes for lectures and her slides are very vague. She mispronounces words, however she does appear to be slightly passionate about the topic of Islam. You cannot fall behind on the readings or you will be lost, but honestly I did the reading as well and I was lost.
We have reading quizzes in our discussion (which count for 30% participation) and they are very complex. Usually about three questions but they tend to be short answer and a little complex.
Professor Hoehler-Fatton is one of my favorite professors, and she really knows her stuff. If you are at all interested in religion, I would highly recommend this course, or any of her other courses. For an upper level religious studies class, it was pretty easy as well. The grade came from a midterm, final, participation in discussion, and a group presentation/paper. The only downside was the TA, Michael, who I wasn't the biggest fan of, but overall this was a great class.
