Super sweet prof, highly recommend. Always helpful during office hours and very understanding when it comes to extenuating circumstances/extensions (if needed). Class was very content/work heavy and quite fast-paced, so be prepared to take a lot of notes and learn new material pretty much every day. Nevertheless, if you go to lecture and go to office hours, you should be fine.
Heze Chen was an awesome professor. He's a very sweet guy who does his best to help you in class or in office hours. He cares about his students and will make an effort to help you if you're struggling. The coursework itself can be a little challenging. I came into UVA with calc 2 credit and for the calc entrance exam they recommended I take calc 2 again in college. Don't listen to that exam. Multi is far easier than calc 2 and requires very little knowledge from it. The coursework wasn't too bad either. Before each class there were pre-class worksheets with pre-class videos submitted for completion. There were WebAssigns which weren't too challenging either, but could take a while to complete so start them early. Do not wait until last minute to do the extended assignments either as these took a long time to complete, but there were only two for the semester. The four midterms were fairly challenging, but if you take good notes on the pre-class videos and go to office hours, you'll be fine. The final was not that hard either, as a large portion of the questions are on topics learned after the final midterm. Overall, this class could be challenging at times, but Heze is a very good professor who made it enjoyable and much more manageable.
Professor Chen is so sweet and genuinely willing to help every student. I was not looking forward to Multivariable because I had a terrible experience with it high school. However, Chen's class was amazing! He explains things really well; his notes are very organized. The workload was very low, and the concepts are not too hard to understand.
Chen was incredibly friendly and accommodating towards all students; he tries to learn everyone's name, especially if you go to his office hours.
His lectures weren't very informative. They usually just reiterated the material already covered in the pre class material. He often spent time during lectures going over proofs for the formulas we were learning, which was unhelpful for any homework/exams and could just be confusing in general. This course had a significant workload and required a daily commitment of time to stay up to date with all of the course material.

Workload: The course was not very demanding time-wise, but it can be overwhelming if you get behind later in the semester when the units become slightly more complicated. The online homework assignments have due dates grouped, meaning if you aren't doing the problem sets when a section of content is covered, you will be fumbling to finish all three assignments by the end of the day instead of going out.
Professor: Professor Chen's lectures were the most enjoyable of my semester. He did a great job explaining applications and providing proofs (which were very important to understand as the tests always have conceptual questions that are most easily understood via these proofs). Most of his lectures spent the first 5-10 minutes expanding on the preclass concepts and the next 10-20 with some examples. This gave about half the class time to work on the group work worksheets, ask questions, etc. He grades pretty well, responds to emails, and is willing to help during office hours (although I didn't feel they were necessary for this course).
TLDR: Great class, not too much work. If you can take the class with Chen, DO IT (he's the type of professor you can take a class under just because it's with him).
