HIUS 3131

I came into this course extremely interested about the Gilded Age and the Progressive Era, and it turned out to be just mediocre. Lectures usually got boring, although Zunz is very charismatic and sweet. Sometimes subject matter would be reemphasized many times for no reason, which could get annoying as the semester went on. Not too much reading for a history course, but the course did have many very long and tedious readings that were not interesting at all. Two papers, a midterm, and a final. There was also a discussion section where attendance was mandatory. Overall, it was just okay. Take it if you're genuinely interested, but otherwise there are other great history courses available out there.
