APMA 1110 was more extensive than my Calc BC class in High School. Overall this class was not too hard although I did have some prior experience in about 50% of the topics. The class also felt more engineering oriented than a normal calc class would be covering topics like work and moments. Professor Pisano I think did well teaching a difficult class. Our homework would be to finish classwork(usually very minimal if any), weekly web assigns that were no too difficult to get 100s on, and watching a recorded lecture for the following class. Classes were spent doing practice problems and getting questions answered. There was also some extra credit offered in class through attendance and iClicker questions that made it easy enough to get a 100 in the classwork portion of our grade. There was also a pre calc assessment that was 5% of our grade. She was also very helpful during office hours.
Pisano is a decent professor. She doesn't do much actual lecturing in person -- before each class, you have to watch a recorded video where she explains the concepts, then in class, you and your assigned group-mates do a worksheet together where you can ask her and the TAs for any help. I actually really liked this, because I learn math best by actually working through problems, but this may not be the case for everyone. I would say that the most challenging aspect of this course is the sheer volume of information you are expected to learn in one semester. The concepts themselves aren't too difficult, usually I'd grasp them pretty well within a couple of practice problems, but this is a class that meets four times a week and almost every class you are learning a new topic, so it is a lot to keep up with.
Some tips for success:
-Go to office hours: In my opinion, Pisano is one of those professors who is actually better in office hours. Many times in class, I'd get confused at something she was explaining, but I understood everything perfectly if she went over it with me in her office.
-Go to P2l sessions: These are weekly review sessions held by students who have taken the course in the past. It's one hour per week of practicing problems with other students. The best part about it is that for every 5 sessions you attend, you get 0.5% added to your semester grade. I attended over 10 sessions and I got 1% added to my final grade. This was extremely beneficial because I was at a 92% and with P2L, I earned a 93% semester grade. So P2L literally made the difference between an A- and an A for me. Bottom line: attend these sessions, you never know if the extra credit will make a difference for your GPA, and even if it doesn't, you'll have gotten some good practice out of simply attending.
-Studying for tests: the tests are based primarily on the in-class worksheets. If you go through and redo every worksheet from the unit to study for each test, that will be plenty. The WebAssign problems are much harder, and she never puts questions like those on the tests.
-Studying for the exam: The best piece of advice I have for this doesn't actually have to do with studying, but attending the in-class Q&A days before the exam. Definitely go to those because she will drop hints about what is going to be on the exam and what isn't. Also, be warned: the exam is significantly harder than any of the tests. Just study a lot, and pray for the best.

If you actually want to learn in class, don't choose Pisano solely because she expects you to learn the content before class and treats class time as office hours, unless that caters to your learning style. I have ADHD and struggled immensely to pass this class despite enjoying math. This class made me feel stupid because I refuse to watch 30+ min videos everyday. On the other hand, she is understanding and willing to help and if you end up taking this class, WATCH THE VIDEOS BECAUSE ITS A LOT.

Pisano is a very nice professor who genuinely cares for her students, as well as an effective lecturer. This course operates on a "flipped classroom" style, where you watch lectures on your own time and do groupwork during class. You will either love or hate this system, but I really liked it because I think actually practicing math is the best way to learn, and it is easier to do so when you have your classmates and TAs around you. The tests are pretty easy, and I would recommend redoing the worksheets before to study. Definitely attend P2L as well, not just for the extra credit but also because I truly felt like it helped me learn better. The final definitely is significantly harder than the midterms, but as long as you do decently well on the midterms your grade will be fine.
If you took calc BC in high school, you'll do fine in this class. If not, I think you will struggle a bit. The exams are very similar to the in class worksheets, so that makes studying pretty simple. The reverse learning is honestly really nice because you can learn at your own pace and her lectures are pretty good. The grading is pretty unforgiving, and she's not great about partial credit. She didn't curve any tests throughout the semester, but did curve the final. She gets kinda annoyed if she can tell that you didn't watch the lecture before class, so ask your groupmates questions first.
Professor Pisano is a great professor for the class. You MUST watch the pre class videos, and if you do, you will do great in the class. Worksheets are harder than the tests, and I recommend reviewing the WebAssign's. She was my favorite professor first semester and made Calc II my favorite class. If you can, please take Pisano, but make sure to take proper notes from the videos she posts, and make sure you do the practice problems and understand them! The final is harder than all the other midterms, but it is difficult because there is so much arithmetic.
Professor Pisano breaks the class up into nightly lecture videos that you watch before coming on for class where you usually do worksheets that build off of the video. There are then weekly homework assignments on WebAssign that are usually a lot tougher than they need to be. The 3 midterms aren't too bad as long as you make sure you have the worksheets from the unit down. Those worksheets are THE best thing to study before taking each midterm; almost all of questions on the tests are pulled from them. Then, for the final, oh boy, let's hope you get a miracle. It's without a doubt much much harder than the midterms. Definitely focus on studying a LOT more than you think you need to for it. Other than that, I'd say Pisano is a pretty boring but nice and approachable professor to have for this pretty hard calc 2 class. #tCFF23
I liked the way this class was structured. Most of the time the only homework was to watch the lecture and the Webassigns were due every Wednesday. Although it's a bit difficult to listen to Pisano lecture, having them online made it easier because I could watch at whatever speed I wanted. The tests had problems that were exactly like the worksheets, and if you study the worksheets fully you will do well. The final exam is a different story and was significantly harder than any exam. Overall not too bad.
Overall the course is super difficult. No matter what professor you have, this class will be challenging. However, Prof. Pisano is a very nice lady and will help you on assignments. Lectures are online, in which you watch a video and take notes on it before class. In class you work on collaborative worksheets the whole time. I heard in other classes lectures were in person and the worksheets were nightly homework, which would be a pain. Other than the videos, outside of class you are required to complete the weekly homeworks (due every wednesday) which are not bad at all.
Professor Pisano was a decent professor. She was very forgiving for me messing up exams with the online format so I really appreciated that, but her lecture style wasn't the best for me. I often had to watch YouTube videos to really understand. This is one class to make sure that you stay on top of material or you could get lost, but it's not terrible. #tCFspring2021
Disclaimer: I took this course in-person. My comments may not apply to how this is taught online.
This class was respectable but nothing special. If you took this in high school and are repeating it DO NOT underestimate this course! This is NOT your AP Calculus BC high school class! If you do not put in the work you will NOT have a good time!
Prof. Pisano is nothing special. Tests/quizzes are fair and homework is not bad once you get used to WebAssign. She will not screw you over. The only way you get screwed over in this class if if you do not put in the work!
It's a tough, frustrating course, but not impossible. Professor Pisano definitely knew her stuff and was a great professor. I highly recommend her class. It does require hard work, for sure, but it's not absolutely impossible.
Pro tip - redo the in class worksheets that she gives just before the test, it's good practice.
Calc 2 with Pisano is pretty good. Many people don't take advantage of her office hours which is dumb because she will help you with anything! Her tests are revolved around the worksheets you do in class with your group. Even though the Webassign homework is harder, she never puts questions like those on her exams.
I don't understand where everyone is coming from. I just got out of Pisano's class and it was by far the worst course I've taken. The problems in the power points which the class solves together are nowhere near the level of complexity on the homeworks or the tests. At first glance, the test seems somewhat fair, but the rubric is rigorous that a small error can cost you upwards of 80% of the points on a multi-step problem, single handedly tanking your grade. On more than one occasion I saw someone physically brought to tears by the final. Although she may be one of the better teachers in an overall horrid department, this class is still an atrocity and fulfills its reputation as the most failed class on campus.
Not too bad. She doesn't have very much personality when teaching, but Pisano explains things clearly and is fair. The class begins with a powerpoint lecture that has clicker questions and then you do a worksheet with your assigned group. Homework is on WebAssign, there's usually a relatively short pre-homework due for every class and 2-3 longer assignments due on Wednesday nights, sometimes these longer assignments took a while because the problems were more difficult than the ones we did in class. Overall I would say it's a pretty relaxed and fair class as long as you show up, pay attention, and dedicate time to doing homework outside of class & studying before exams.
Professor Pisano was great! I did not have credit for Calc 1 and had never taken Calc 2 in high school, but I did fine.
Homework: There were short pre-homeworks with tutorial problems that are due on the morning before you learn about that section, and then a couple longer homeworks every week. It was very doable, and she was extremely helpful during office hours.
Classtime: We did group worksheets almost every class after she taught the section, which I liked because it solidified what we were learning.
Overall: Prof. Pisano wants you to succeed in this class, and if you do the work you will.
Ms. Pisano is great at explaining the material quickly and concisely. You are expected to come into class having read the and with a basic understanding of the material, so a large portion of class is spent doing practice problems in a group and refining your understanding of the material, which I thought was very helpful. Overall, one of the best math experience I've had. Would recommend.
Pisano is a great teacher. All of her assignments are very fair and based directly on what is taught and expounded upon during group work. Homework can be challenging at times, but really prepares you for the tests and quizzes which is a plus. THE FINAL FOR THIS CLASS IS SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER THAN ANY TEST SHE EVER GIVES. Be prepared.
I absolutely loved Professor Pisano. Calc II is a rough class and is not overly interesting, however, Pisano does a good job at giving you a solid background. You will have Pre-Homeworks before class and then during class Pisano will go over the material again, then you have groupwork which is very helpful. Her tests and grading are fair. Attending class is a must due to the groupwork and clicker questions. If you need extra help Pisano is very approachable and helpful. Overall a pleasant experience for an unpleasant class.
I absolutely loved Pisano. People dig on her PowerPoints, but it allows her more time to explain what is on them when she's not worried about correcting her own chalkboard mistakes.
I had Morris for Calc III and actually enjoyed Pisano more. I gave her a 4 for fun (because I love math). You probably won't think it's a 4, unless you're like me.
Professor Pisano is great! I absolutely loved her!
You NEED to do the homework. If you don't do them, you'll be completely lost. I hadn't taken Calc II before this course, and Professor Pisano was very helpful in her office hours. She really nice and approachable, so getting help is no problem. She's the best for Calc II.
As others have mentioned, Ms. Pisano truly is an underrated Calc II professor. Her lectures aren't thrilling, but if you have the desire to succeed in the course, you'll listen closely. She's the type of professor that drops hints on what will appear (and what won't) on an exam, which in a class like Calc II is big plus. Her quizzes ALWAYS have at least one problem copied verbatim from the Homework, and the others are very similar. So do the HW! Trust me, if you complete each optional HW assignment, you'll walk out of that class with at least a B+, likely an A. Because the quizzes and tests revolve around the HW. And that's a good deal.
Pisano is a nice lady and accommodating should you have an issue, unlike many other professors. I would certainly recommend her over Guadagni. People seem to like Beck the most, who I can't say anything about because I have never interacted with her. You can't go wrong with Pisano if you have to take calc II. The course is tough of course, you might work your ass off for only a B, but that's life.
I took AP Calc AB and AP Calc BC in high school so I had already learned almost everything that was covered in this course. I was able to easily follow along with Pisano's lectures but for those who are unfamiliar with the topics she may move a little fast. Pisano writes all of her own tests so the material on tests lines up well with what you learn in class. She is a very sweet, underrated professor and is extremely helpful during office hours.
I would recommend taking Professor Pisano's class if you need to take calc II. Pisano's lectures make the material easy to understand, and the tests in this class are not too difficult. While I definitely would not call this a fun class, Professor Pisano does a good job explaining the potentially difficult material.
Professor Pisano is heavily underrated. Everyone always fights to get into Professor Beck's class for calc 2 and while I have heard great things about Beck, I had her for a couple classes and her teaching methods just didn't click for me. I thoroughly enjoy Pisano's methods because they suited me better. She teaches via powerpoint which some people don't like but it's good because she puts them all on collab AND she also does problems on the board so she works out problems and doesn't just do it ALL on the slides. If you can take it with Pisano, do it. Calc II is a difficult class but Pisano is more than willing to see you succeed!
Ms. Pisano is extremely underrated among Calc II professors, in my opinion. She is extremely clear in her lectures and beyond helpful in office hours. She is genuinely interested in ensuring that her students understand the material and do well in the class. Calc II is hard in general, but her instruction definitely was enough to get me a decent grade in the class. DO the suggested problems for sure if you want to score high on her tests and that should honestly be enough. I would highly highly recommend taking this class with her.
Pisano is honestly amazing. I don't understand why so many people dislike her. She is really helpful if you go to her office hours. And no one should get below a 100% for the clicker questions because she puts all them on collab before the class. I love her method of teaching. And I thought Calc II would be a LOT more difficult than it is :D
I RECOMMEND THIS CLASS. Prof. Pisano put the lectures on the computer so you could print them out for the class. The use of Clicker questions kept you interested in the lectures. She graded fairly and put the solutions to tests and quizzes on Collab. Plus she seemed to like me despite the fact that I sat in the front and talked a lot.
The class is very difficult, so doing the homework problems are a must. However, Pisano is very knowledgeable about the subject and conveys that knowledge to her students well. She tries her best to make herself available to students and responds to e-mails very quickly and frequently. Her quizzes are relatively easy compared to the tests, which assess your understanding to a much higher degree. Stay on top of things and you'll be fine.
The class, as known to everyone else, is the dreadesd weed out class. However, in my opinion, after the withdraw deadline, the class became a bit more understandable and easier. It is a hard class though; do your homework. Professor Pisano is a nice teacher, she may make a few board mistakes though but nothing big. If you want to take this class, don't let others get in your head saying Pisano's bad; shes as good as any other of the teachers too.
She is a horrible teacher, she has no (obvious) love for the subject, but she is certainly knowledgeable. Go to office hours and she will help you. Pay attention to the little shit she says during the semester that you should know because 8 times out of 10 it will show up to bite you in the ass on the final.
She is an awesome professor. She help her students any way possible to help them do well. Although if you are the kind of students who likes their professors to do every line of math on the board then you are better off with professor Beck. But if you want very structured lectures and slides then this is the class where you want to be
Pisano isn't the best teacher. If you need things thoroughly explained to you, then you should definitely go to her office hours. She teaches from powerpoints which I personally had a problem with. The class is pretty difficult. Make sure to do the homework and ask lots of questions. If you don't understand the material, don't let it go too long before you get help or you'll never recover.
This class is a little different from BC Calc. I got a 5 on the AP exam and about 25% of the material this semester was new to me. I got an A in the class, but I definitely had to study hard. All students take the same midterms and final exam. Professor Pisano explained problems well in class and was even more helpful during her office hours. The best way to study for the exams is to study all of the homework problems, past exams (on Collab), and PPT slides. I highly recommend Professor Pisano!
She teaches from slides (available on Collab) which may not work for some students. I find it helpful though since I can pay more attention to the process rather than writing notes. Pisano can come off as mean and unapproachable in class, but she is very helpful during her office hours and will help you with any question. I recommend going right before the quizzes.
I feel like Pisano has a terrible reputation, but I personally really liked her. She did confuse herself sometimes when trying to answer questions (but I feel like students that were doing poorly in the class or just flat out didn’t like her would purposely ask weird questions to try to stump her). Her lessons were always well planned and she explained everything that was prepared very well. If you are willing to spend some time to read through the textbook and complete the homework problems, this class isn't too bad. Also, the textbook was awesome which really helped.
Professor Pisano taught this class very efficiently and she speaks English (always a plus in math!). You will get a lot of taking this class from her as long as you stay on top of your work and are prepared for your 4th hour quizzes. However, if you can take this or any other APMA classes from Mary Beck, do, she's the best in this department and really cares about her students.
