I took this course online and it worked out pretty well for the most part. This course is as traditional as it gets when it comes to math courses. There are four 50 minute blocks in which she teaches for the first 35-40 min and gives you an in-class worksheet to work in a group that is due by midnight. These questions are based on that lecture of that day. Then, there is a weekly WebAssign due each Wednesday. These are more difficult than the in-class worksheets and really apply your knowledge of the concepts. I would recommend going to office hours for those problems if necessary. Midway through the unit, there is a quiz( 2 mandatory quizzes; 1 optional quiz). The class before the midterm, she has a review day. After that, there are midterms(2 midterms). The midterms and quizzes aren't that hard because they are around the same difficulty as the in-class worksheets, BUT the point distribution on the exams are BS. For a good portion of the exam, they don't check your work and give zero partial credit. For example, if you missed a multiple choice question you get no credit regardless of work. That sounds reasonable right? NO. The multiple-choice questions are weighted soooo much on exams. For the 1st exam, if you missed one mc question, that's an automatic 9% taken away from the exam score. On the final exam, 5%. It also doesn't help that they are super picky with the stuff they DO grade and that the midterms are worth 40% of the grade and the final exam is worth 35% of the grade. The final exam was harder than I expected but wasn't too bad. To be fair, the APMA department for Calc 2 and 3 does curve grades at the end of the semester(they didn't this semester due to good performance).
On the professor herself, she was pretty good. She made sure everyone understood the content before moving on and had office hours 4 days a week. She also has additional office hours for the weekend before the exam(Exams were always held on Mondays). She wants everyone to succeed. She also creates a review list before each exam to prepare us. She's also very understanding and allows people extensions as long as that privilege is not abused. This course is moderately difficult imo but she makes it a lot easier with her coherent and in-depth explanations. Most of my major gripes of this course are more about the point distributions on exams, which is used by all professors in APMA 1110. If you want to succeed in her class, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Some concepts are very difficult at first glance but if you do the worksheets, WebAssign, and tackle problems from the textbook, the concept starts to become a lot easier. I would also recommend office hours because the TAs and professor will literally answer any question you have. Overall, it isn't too hard to get a decent grade in this class as long as you are willing to work for it, and was an enjoyable class for me.
