The material in class can be difficult but professor Lakshmi is super helpful and loves to help and answer questions. Pay attention to the examples he does in class and read the textbook to be fully prepared for exams. The exam questions are usually directly from homework problems with a few numbers changed, so making sure to know the process for the type of problems you are doing will serve you well. The homeworks can be challenging so go to office hours for help, examples in class do not always give enough info to complete the homework problems.
This course is pretty simply set up. First of all, class attendance is nearly mandatory, as the professor does not record any of his lectures. The course is set up with 8 homework assignments and 3 exams, none of them non-cumulative, with pop quizzes here and there. Quizzes are never too difficult, but homework can be difficult (I would recommend reading the textbook!). The tests are about average difficulty, depending on your confidence in the topics; I found Test 2 to be the most difficult. Grading is very lenient, and the professor and TA really want you to understand the material in a non-stressful environment.
With further details on the professor, he is very passionate about the subject and is also passionate about student growth. You'll learn a lot about a lot of different topics in Civil Engineering, and he is quite fun to play basketball with. He invites questions and encourages active participation. Overall, anybody can learn the concepts in this course, just don't miss a class and come to class prepared with questions and a willingness to push yourself a bit.
