William Johnson is a great guy-- very personable, approachable, and always willing to help. He communicates well in regards to quiz date extensions, going over extra practice problems, or additional office hours. However, he is not the best at answering questions in the way you would like, and is sometimes unclear in his lecturing. Comparing my experience with peers in Hui Ma's section, I would say try to get Ma if possible.
Professor Johnson is super nice and he's obviously a genius, but sometimes his explanations are a bit confusing. I had taken calculus before so I didn't usually have an issue with this, but if you haven't be prepared. If you put in the time and effort, you will get a lot out of this class, but don't expect it to be easy just because it's Calc 1.
Johnson is an AWESOME professor for this class. He understands that not everyone in the room has calculus experience and really takes the time to thoroughly explain everything. He will make sure everyone understands where the formulas/rules/etc. come from and will make you apply that on the quizzes/tests (so study it!). He's also incredibly patient, both in class and in office hours, so don't hesitate to ask questions. Put in the time and you should be well-prepared for Calc II.
May seem boring at first, but Professor Johnson goes behind each calculus concept, which makes his class a little more interesting than the other APMA classes. He helps build a good foundation, but make sure you keep up wth the work. He's very approachable, so if you need help, go to office hours!!!!
