SYS 3062

This course is split into two halves. When I took it James Lark taught the first half and Nicola Bezzo taught the second. Lark's section is taught very similar to stats and I would go about it the same way. Homework's for Lark aren't super challenging if you click through his lectures. Lark's exam is not tough at all, the average was around an 89. Lark's section's labs are based in Simio which isn't that bad of a software and fairly intuitive. Bezzo teaches the second half. Disaster strikes. He is all over the place and his homework's take a lot more time than Larks, particularly because you have to code in MATLAB. His labs are also in MATLAB. I would say I enjoyed the second half of this course a lot less than the first. I am personally just not a fan of flipped teaching, especially when it is broken down into 10 lectures each consisting of 8 YouTube videos. Surprisingly however, I did do better on Bezzo's exam over Larks. Understand the homework, understand the labs, and you will succeed. 25% of the grade is homework, 25% is labs, 25% midterm 1, 25% midterm 2.

The first half of the class involves Simio labs which are pretty easy overall. The second half of the class involve MATLAB labs which are definitely trickier but aren't terrible either. The first half of the course is mostly just queuing theory and is pretty straightforward while the second half of the course focuses on application and simulation of differential equations. Definitely not the most exciting or useful class, but its not terrible. Will require some work. You get 5% extra credit opportunities so everyone passes but its hard to get an A. 50% exams 25% labs and 25% on four HW assignments so aim to do well on the exams to do well in the class.

Did not like this course. Using simio was interesting and not that hard, but this class overall is WACK. The first half of the class is so different from the second half. The labs are pretty straightforward until the second half. They get a little confusing if you're not great with the concepts and putting it into matlab.

Lark's test seemed fine, but we all kinda did poor. BOMBED Bezzo's second exam.

The class is so irrelevant to UVA systems engineering. It’s a mystery to me why we take it and based on his attitude, I’d say it’s also a mystery to professor Bezzo.
