Professor Brown is a very enthusiastic lecturer. He's very engaging in class, and seems very knowledgeable about the subject.
The class focuses on the different ways energy influences the the way the world grows. There are a fair number of terms/ideas that the class focuses on, and the papers for the class must be centered around these ideas.
There is quite a bit of reading for the course. We had to read passages out of many different books and compare then to one another. Be prepared to talk about these passages during the discussion sections, as part of the grade comes from participation during the discussion. The other part of the grade comes from tests and papers. I think there was one midterm and a final. Every other week, a two-page paper comparing two of the passages is due.
Overall, the class is interesting if you're into history and the subject matter. If not, it's a pretty decent class to get your STS 2000+ requirement done with.
Professor Brown is a very knowledgeable teacher, and I enjoyed his lectures. The subject was really interesting, especially is you enjoy history. This class is probably more work than most of the other STS courses. If you are looking for a really easy STS course you may not want to take this class, but if you are looking for an STS course that you may actually enjoy going to, this class is great.
