(I took this course online.) This class is a whirlwind survey of comparative linguistics between modern Romance languages, especially focusing on phonology and the derivation of Spanish from Latin. We were graded on 3 long-answer exams and 1 semester-long individual project (~10 page paper). Readings are not long.
Velázquez is fun professor and makes a real effort to get to know his students. He is funny and engaging, and he made me laugh even over Zoom. He knows this type of material so deeply, and it is his true joy to watch students learn about it.
