This class was divided into 3 short essays and 2 presentations that lasted the entire class time plus participation. Even though Lorena is very kind and supportive, her teaching style for the class just isn’t effective. Because the presentations take up almost every class period, you never really hear proper Spanish or get taught the material from the professor. It’s all from the students which means if they don’t understand the material then neither do you. The readings are also all in English except for a few (so you get little to no Spanish reading practice either). The class was graded very easy but I don’t really feel like I learned anything both content wise and language wise. The classes and content were extremely boring too because you just listen to presentations all class every class. I was hoping the class would give more historical and contemporary examples of language discrimination, but it was almost exclusively theory and felt very “fake woke”, as in no one presenting or answering in class actually believed what they were saying but just trying to get participation points. #tCFS24
