Fiona Greenland in my favorite professor in all of the sociology department, if not in all of UVA. This class had 5 short reading responses, one presentation, and one 15-page final paper, all of which she grades extremely leniently. This is an easy A and a very insightful class. You learn about modern art and how it interacts with capitalism, and how high-class art works in modern society. I highly recommend.
My favorite class that I've taken at UVA. Professor Greenland is so great at facilitating discussion and is also just really cool. The class material was super interesting as well. Sometimes the readings were a little long but skimming them was usually enough, and one student was assigned each day to summarize the readings. There were a few writing assignments but the only really long assignment is the final paper, and it's about anything that we choose that pertains to the material we studied in class. I would highly recommend this class.
This class was super fun! When I saw that Professor Greenland was teaching it, I knew I had to enroll immediately. She's an amazing teacher who makes class discussion really fun. The readings in the class were technical at times, but readings were supplemented by a summary presentation from a classmate at the beginning of each class. This class counts as a second writing requirement because there is a fair bit of writing in it, but assignments were graded more than fairly in my opinion.
