Hess isn't especially bright, so he can't explain the theory behind the experiments very well nor can he follow theory in the papers. This year, he graded far harder than he used to, so much so it's ridiculous. The labs are fantastically fun and thought provoking, but if you actually go into any depth in the reports it will take quite a while (6-10 pages is a lie).
The lab hours/week (6) is a little steep, but this is an easy class. You get a lot of one-on-one attention, and the labs are pretty easy to do and write up. There are five lab reports, three of which were 6-10 pages, one was 26 pages, and one is a group presentation. Definitely a better choice than a 300-level theory class if you can fit it into your schedule.
