Reading these reviews....
I mean...it's pretty difficult not to do well in this class.
But lo and behold, we were graced with pre-meds that actually think that they will be operating on a person when they don't even understand how to do a simple projectile motion calculation...
But that's just none of my business.
Really annoying to go to every week and too much work for a 1 credit lab in my opinion. The grade breakdown goes like this: Prelab 20%, Lab 50%, Postlab Quiz 30%. Pretty much everyone gets 100% on the prelab because you have 10 attempts per questions, and you change partners for each lab so the lab grades get normalized over time. The main separator is how you do on the postlabs (you have three attempts and there is a timer; you also don't get to see how you did until the next day). Everyone in each section is ranked and the grades are given out according to that order, with the average grade being around a B+.
Grade your professor? Who is Yoon J.? This class is awful for the 1 credit you receive. Many of the sections are curved down due to raw class averages above a B. Also, if you haven't already learned that premeds are excrutiatingly annoying people, you will learn-or be fatally reminded-during this class. You're not here to make friends; fight for the top spot, and get an A. Like me.
I have no idea what he looks like at all. At least Prof Thornton came to my lab section almost everyday fall semester. The way they distribute grades is retarded. I would rather have it so that whatever grade we get is the grade we get. The average for my section was ~89 and I got ~88 and got a freaking C+! What the hell was that about! I wish they didn't do it that way because I would've gotten a B+. The grading is so stupid. Overall, the material was not that hard but it really really depends on how everyone else is doing. Basically, just hope you get into a section with a bunch of stupid people so you can have a better chance of getting an A. I did better fall semester. It just pisses me off. I did better in the actual lecture class and that's way way harder than lab. Just simply stupid grading system.
This is a terrible class that has a retarded curve to separate out premeds. The TAs look for the tiniest details to take points off on your lab reports. They NEED to make the prelabs or postlabs harder or worth more so that the standard deviation in grades isnt 3% (OMG). Horrible experience. Definitely the most stress/agony per credit hour of any class I've taken at UVA... but all prehealth people have to take it.
