Take the class with Jency!! I had Grouchy for Physics 1 for Pre-Health Students and did not like it. Jency makes the class fun and is so open to help. She does demos in class which was so cool. I also recommend going to office hours this definitely helped me do well in the class. There is a lot of work each week and you have to stay on top of it. I highly recommend knowing each problem inside and out for the midterms and final. You also have to study a ton for the final as it can drop or increase your grade drastically.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Physics will be challenging no matter who you take it with, but Dr. Jency is an extremely kind and accommodating professor who will meet your needs if you communicate them. She held office hours for one hour every weekday and gave the students an opportunity to vote on the best times. This class has a high workload, and you need to go to office hours often to do well on the assignments. You have to watch a prelecture video before every class (20-ish minutes) to prepare for a short 2-4 question quiz (DIRT quiz) at the beginning of each class (it is independent unless most of the class is answering incorrectly, at which point she gives you the opportunity to discuss the answer). At the end of each class, there is a 1-question quiz (EOL quiz) that is the answer to a problem you completed in your groups during the class. She gave us the opportunity to make-up these quizzes within a week. Each week there is also a weekly report (essentially 3-4 pages of worksheets) along with a homework assignment (~8 problems with multiple parts to each), both of which you can work with others on and get help with in office hours. There is also an open-note, 10 question, multiple-choice quiz each week. Dr. Jency dropped the lowest quiz if you took an end-of-course survey, and she also dropped the lowest DIRT and EOL quiz. You must complete all reports and homework assignments as there are no drops. Watch the grading carefully as it is done by TAs, and you may have to put in multiple regrade requests within a week. There are two midterms, both of which have built in extra credit that does not carry over to another midterm. The final also had built in extra credit, and there was an opportunity to make a report/video with a group for more extra credit on the final. The final was 80% of the material since the last midterm and 20% of older material. Study hard for the final despite holding a high grade in the class since it is easy to forget older material and tank your grade at the end. You also need to go to office hours to get a better conceptual understanding of the material, which is mainly what the weekly report problems are based around. #tCFS24
