This class was a nice break from my usual chemical engineering rigor. There were visible parallels between both curriculums, making it both more understandable and relatable. Professor Scully is great at clearly conveying information during his lectures, and has many stories to share - all of which are quite unique, interesting, and relevant to the material. He also does an excellent job of recording his powerpoint lectures and posting them to Panopto. Overall, the homework sets are quite manageable, given there are only 4 throughout the semester. The tests fairly assess the topics learned in class and practiced in homework.
The material for this class is very dry, but Scully is a nice guy and really wants to see his students learn. He has tons of real world experience, and draws from it to aid in his lectures. Even as an EE, I think a lot of the material we covered in this class will be extremely useful down the road.
There are only about 4 homework sets due over the course of the semester, but they are long and make up a significant portion of your grade, so make sure to get an early start on them. Scully is helpful in office hours, so leave time to go to him.
Tests are fair but long. He says he does this so he can test a variety of information (so you don't put all your eggs in one basket). He does let you have an extra 15-30 minutes after class has ended to finish up.
Good class to fulfill MSE requirement - doesn't pull much material from other courses. Professor Scully posts all the lecture notes and is very thorough. The homework sets are fair (but leave enough time to ask the TA questions) and although tests are a little long, they weren't too hard. The final was pretty tough, though. Scully provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit and is really approachable.
