MATH 7340

It feels utterly bizarre to not rate a Ben Hayes course as 5/5 difficulty. But this was the third course I've had with him, and I think it was the easiest (the others being 4310 and 4330). Is this because I had adjusted to his style? Or because of the absurd grade curving that occurs in graduate courses? Those factors definitely played a part. But Ben also reformatted his homework grading, which was quite helpful. The 2021 iteration of this course was reportedly riddled with nasty homework issues, and Ben was conscious to alleviate some of those struggles. Additionally, complex analysis is, as far as pure math courses go, fairly concrete. There are some strong results, fairly easy visualizations, and actual evaluations (numbers!) of some integrals and whatnot. I am biased (complex analysis being one of my two favorite fields), but I would say that -- especially with appropriate background in undergraduate courses -- this course is reasonably approachable from a content perspective, and I recommend taking it if it falls upon your path.
