Interesting class, but Barnett tends to be very disorganized and his lectures don't follow any established patterns. The work centers on three easy quizzes, a book review, and participation.

This was a great class and I highly recommend Barnett. Barnett is a great professor who really brings life to interesting material.

not that hard. participation is the largest part of your grade, so just do the reading. unfortunately, grading is very arbitrary. i was one of the most vocal speakers, got As on the two major projects, but still ended up with an A-

This class was pretty easy. Professor Barnett genuinely wants his students to learn the material so he does not try and trick you on the exams. Your grade is based on 3 quizzes, a presentation, and participation. The quizzes are pretty easy because he gives you a list of 70 terms and 40 will be on the quiz and then you only have to answer 20. The material itself is interesting, but there is a lot of overlap. On your own you read a book and give a presentation on it. Overall, I got an A- in this class and I didn't do a lot of the reading. You will learn a lot about India and South Asia through taking this class.

Professor Barnett can sometimes be a tricky person to read- he can be very serious or a little silly, but he does care about his students and what they have to contribute to class. The grade comes from participation, a book review due at any time during the semester, a 6-7 minute presentation on a different book, and three quizzes on vocab terms. For the quizzes, get a study group and you'll be fine.
