Horrible class. The lectures were all over the place and very disorganized, despite her seeming to know a lot about the material. The course readings were way too heavy for a 202 class and the topic was difficult to cover in a semester's time. I'd look for courses on the ME elsewhere.

Interesting material but horrible professor. Professor Thompson was almost always late to class, lectures were disorganized and unclear, and she assigned too much reading for each week. I would not recommend taking this class unless you are VERY interested in the subject.

Interesting material, horrible professor. Lectures are all over the place and have no coherent structure. Work is extremely overburdenous for a basic level survey class. Avoid professor at all costs.

The lectures were terrible. Thompson is very hard to follow. But with reading and the discussion it's easy to get a good grade.

Lectures are boring, but you learn a lot in the class. She is enthusiastic but digresses a lot.

Very interesting. A lot of work though. I still think it was worthwhile. Warning: not a class to explain September 11th or terrorism or anything like that, but a history of a very interesting part of the world

Thompson is incredibly enthusiastic. Sometimes the readings and lectures are a tad on the dry side, but this is another one of the many very good courses in the history department.

I LOVED this class! the course material is a lot but professor Thompson makes up for that by being one of the greatest and friendliest professors at UVa. I am looking forward to taking another one of her classes next spring.

Thompson is extremely intelligent. This class is worth your time here. It's worth four credits and it's not hard to get an A-. It also gives you a great, useful perspective of your place in the world.

She obviously knows what she is talking about but has a very hard time keeping on track in lecture. Any information she gives you in class needs to be sorted out in discussion right after. The reading load is heavy as well, interesting course though.
