FREN 4838

Class: The class was chill, not much homework on a daily basis, just reading the textbook, various articles, and watching the news in french. There are two textbooks for the class. You will need the Wylie book for the project but you can skate by without the Chabal reading. Day-to-day we mostly discussed the reading or she lectured.
Teacher: Super cool teacher. She's pretty understanding when it comes to deadlines. There were a couple of times when there was due date confusion and she moved the due dates in our favor. She's funny and the course is engaging. She is not the fastest grader, but most of the assignments had opportunities to revise them for a better grade.
Work: We had about 6 writing assignments spread around the semester, a group project that included an oral presentation and the compilation of our final papers, final reflection of 2-3 pages or 4 minutes, final paper was 6-7 pages long
All of the work was spread out pretty well throughout the semester.

Overall I definitely recommend this class to any French major. It's a pretty easy way to knock out a 4000 level class.

This was an amazing class. Not only was the subject matter very interesting, Professor Horne was incredibly engaging and not a very tough grader. I highly recommend this class for those who are interested in politics and modern French society and culture.

Great professor. Especially if you love politics, this class is GREAT!

Mme. Horne is not the most organized professor. The class doesn't have much structure, and she does a mediocre job of integrating required readings and lectures into meaningful group discussions. I did learn a lot about French culture and society; however, it was not to Mme. Horne's credit.

The grading is very inconsistent as she and Mme. Levine review all the group work, with Mme. Levine usually grading down.
