Professor Bailey was a great professor! Unfortunately, a huge component of this class is the semester long group project. My group was absolutely horrible, which made the class difficult and much less enjoyable. The way the class is structured assumes that everyone is motivated and will do their work (which is a fair assumption, considering this is a Rodman class), but there wasn't much recourse when my group wasn't motivated and wouldn't do their work. I talked to Bailey and he was sympathetic to my shitty group, but there wasn't much he could do to help. He did at least round up my grade and acknowledged that I did most of the work myself. Be really careful when picking your group for this class!
Reid Bailey is one of the most difficult people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. He wants things done in a very certain way, and if you don't have it that way be prepared to lose a lot of points. I also found him to be quite condescending - he believes that he knows best and will try to prove you wrong if you suggest an alternative to his methods. The project I was part of for this semester was so much more difficult than it had to be because Reid Bailey insisted on us using a microcontroller with very limited capabilities.
The class itself isn't great either, but it does have the potential to be, although it probably won't be as long as Reid Bailey is the professor. The worst part about it is the amount of busy work assigned. I'm here to get an engineering degree, not to learn how to write papers and create Gantt charts. The class would be significantly improved if the busy work gets removed and the class becomes more open, with less of Reid Bailey breathing down your neck. Unfortunately, as it currently stands, and with Reid Bailey's "I'm so much smarter than you" attitude, I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.
