Professor Railton might be summarized in a word: quirky. But he's also incredibly fun, and despite the fact that his lectures go every which way, they end up making sense at the end of the semester, and he takes a broad view of what you're learning anyhow-- it's more about the general content than specific quotations or facts. The class definitely felt like a history class sometimes, but without the solid foundation in fact, which leads me to have some reservations. If you have a good discussion section the class will be fun. At the end of the semester, my class all got together for a collaborative exam review and it made things really easy and fun. I wished we'd all talked about things earlier. The papers aren't too bad, if you know what you're doing.
