When I first met Mintz, I thought she was harsh and abrasive. And in a way, she can be, but that's just because she has zero tolerance for nonsense or wasting time. She's strict, but she's good at what she does. She knows her stuff and sometimes that can get in your way if you have a different opinion about something. As far as grading-- I spent all semester figuring it out and still can't. However, one thing I will say for her is that she cares and understands what we as Curry students are going through. She does try to make sure the class isn't a waste of time and she'll grant exceptions or more time for assignments if you're feeling overwhelmed. She's a teacher that respects you for who you are and doesn't have unreasonable expectations.
Absolutely horrible class yet mandatory if you are secondary ed. Mintz's grading scale is horrible, because when you actually divide out the points on the point scale her grade distribution is ridiculous. A 96 or better is an A, and the lowest grade you can get for a B- is an 88 (which is a B+ according to the college and curry school grading scale). I guess Mintz is so full of herself that she feels she can skew the grading scale to make life more difficult. Take this class seriously because if you get below a B- in curry you get kicked out of the program....in Mintz's world below an 88 is a B- and your gone. Take it seriously even though Mintz is completely ridiculous and needs to rethink her beliefs (or maybe practice what she preaches to start).
