Professor Anderson was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the course content, but this class was difficult. It was difficult to follow Prof. Anderson's thinking and therefore follow the course content. It was not the most organized of classes. All the reading came from his research and was very dense. We were given 10-12 pop quizzes about content he had not taught us yet (he would teach us how to do the problem right after the quiz), one project, and a final exam which was worth 50% of our grade. I didn't know my grade all semester. It was one of the hardest of all the econ classes I've taken. With that being said, Prof. Anderson actually made the class interesting and lectures surprisingly flew by. I'm not sure how he managed to make the lectures feel short; It was likely the tangents he went on. I recommend taking this class if you have a genuine interest in advertising or economic theories, but just know it will be difficult.
This class is very unorganized. Though it is obvious that the professor has a lot of knowledge on the theory of advertising, it was extremely difficult to follow along. The same semester, I was taking industrial organization which was the ONLY way I could even relatively understand what was going on. Professor Anderson is a genius researcher, and I think this is what makes his class so hard to follow along because he expects students to simply grasp content easily. This class consisted of random quizzes in the middle of nowhere which would be given before class—as in, we hadn't even learned the material before. Sometimes he would send emails the night before telling us to go over intense research papers on something that he could quiz, this would not help. There was one presentation around Thanksgiving, and the final which is cumulative. Since there is no midterm, there is no basis on how he would test and no prior exams are given. Though professor Anderson is very approachable and nice, this class is all over the place. Pop quizzes randomly and no feedback on how you're doing in the course unless a 5/10 on a quiz represents that. It was very hard to remain engaged in the class material as it was extremely dense and there are zero to no examples of how to solve the questions with math, which is what we are expected to do on the final. If you took Industrial Organization I think it's the only way to have a clearer understanding of what is going on. Take at your own discretion.
