This is a review for the Fall 2023 semester. I don’t think the instructor matters that much for capstone because for the most part, you are on your own. The instructors and TA’s will be able to give you some pointers on your project but you will ultimately have to get it to work. The structure of capstone is that you work on a project that you would pitch to the instructor for the entire semester in groups of 3-5 (Generally would recommend a mix of EE’s and CpE’s). As long as it has a PCB, microcontroller, is within your budget, and is legal, the sky is the limit. This course is incredibly time intensive so make sure you choosing the right team as that will make or break your project. The amount of time you will spend on this course is dependent on the project you choose and the role you have on that project. For example, my group finished the PCB early, so some of our members didn’t have much work for the rest of the semester while I and some other group members grinded the software up until demo day.
The course has a few major deliverables: project proposal, poster session, midterm design review, demo day, and final report/video
Make sure that these are polished as this will be most of your grade. You will also have weekly meetings with an instructor to describe the progress of your project. As long as you are willing to put in the effort, manage your time well, and choose a feasible project idea, you should be able to get something working by the end of the semester.
Best of luck!
