Hardest class I've ever taken. Average across everything in the class was around a 50%. *But* there were no tests and I learned a ton.
Like other really hard classes, if you really want to understand everything, you have to put in a lot more time than most people actually do, so there's a big spectrum of grades. The average was well below a 50 for the people who just showed up in Rice and tried to get other people's answers, and up to an 80-90 for the people who spent longer and worked through everything themselves. It might not be worth it to you, but getting an A definitely requires outside research (office hours, internet, etc).
Also, learn LTSpice so you can check your answers. You'll need to learn it in Electronics II anyway, and it can help your homework grades a lot.
Most of the complaints about Bobby are from those who aren't getting a good grade or aren't putting enough time into the class or taking the time to master the material. Bobby is an excellent professor/teacher and knows what he's talking about. If you put effort into the homework and at least do some of it by yourself, you will be prepared for the midterm and final. There are in-class pop quizzes which aren't really a big deal if you fail them. Labs are 35% of your grade, but almost everyone that completes all projects gets full credit. The labs are hard and professor won't get you any answers right away, but pay attention in lecture because he gives you circuits you can use for your project. The professor definitely make this class hard, but everyone that complains about this class is overexaggerating.
This is hands down the hardest class I've taken at UVa. Weikle knows his stuff and is an enthusiastic teacher, but the material we cover is very difficult. He moves at a pretty slow pace but even then most people have trouble keeping up. The lab itself isn't bad, but prepare to put in a lot of time. Generally you don't have enough knowledge to complete the lab projects so you have to rely on the TA help and other hints the professor gives out. Make sure you get a good group or else there's no way you finish.
The stuff you cover here is a core part of the electrical engineering curriculum, but I'm not entirely sure how relevant it is to computer engineers (even though it's required for us).
In summary, this class is hard. Very hard.
