I took this class with Professor Kelly. Overall the course is not hard, although it is also not a class with zero work. There are four units in total, each of which has a different speaking-related focus. The class was overall more intense than I expected it to be. During each unit you would submit two separate writing responses to readings, a 1 page reflection, and a 1 page "out of class experience" summary. Each unit ended with a "performance" including telling a personal story, reciting a monologue, showing the class how to do something, and persuading the class of something.
Professor Kelly definitely knew her stuff and cared about her students, although was pretty tough at times. She was very strict on attendance and making sure people were at class on time. Considering the drama building is not that close to many other classes, getting to class on time was tough for me and I didn't find Professor Kelly to be that warm or welcoming about it. With that being said, she was definitely a fair grading and took time to get to know her students.
Day to day the classes involve various speaking activities, and you'll become friends with the people in your class which is fun. Overall, I enjoyed this class. It was a nice mix-up from other intense classes related to my major, although it did require some work.
