CHIN 2020

Professor Geng is so adorable I just love the way she teaches. The class is of course incredibly boring because it basically consists of the professor saying some things about grammar and then telling you to practice grammar with 1-2 other people. It's just so mind-numbingly repetitive. From my perspective her tingxie's were pretty fair everyone generally did well on them. I will point out that they do require a significant amount of preparation and you have to be super thorough. I disliked the exams because they suffer from the same problem that essentially all the Chinese classes have, where the tests always have brand new vocabulary that you've never even heard of and you have to attempt to piece together information in order to understand paragraphs. Oh and my favorite part is that for every exam, without exception, there's always a question that asks you to write the English definition for a string of characters that are just completely random. My Chinese friend got confused by one of them - that's how annoying they are. But hey, at least they let you prepare what you want to write for essay topics....sort of. People rarely have the time to complete both essays. we have two class periods for tests and it always feels like it's just not quite enough time. The essays take a while, especially when you need to write complicated characters, and believe me it can be time consuming. So yeah rough class but hey at least you have total control over your grade so ultimately one of my favorite classes but only for that reason.
