This course was easier than other econ courses I have taken. It was all because of Kloosterman though. Kloosterman posts all of the slides online so there was no incentive to go to class. The exams were tough averaging between 59-65, but the curve was generous. If you have to take econ 301, I would advise taking it with Kloosterman.
One of the best classes I've taken here at UVA; it was so simple, yet so sweet. Kloosterman is a very easy-to-understand lecturer who is guided by his clear Powerpoint slides. His tests could be tough at times, but that's ECON 3010 for you. I'd say you definitely have an edge with Kloosterman if you're good with math, because his material is very much calculus-based; that being said, don't let this scare you if you aren't the best at math because he takes each problem very slowly. Could not recommend this guy enough; he's a new professor too, so there's nowhere to go but up!
Econ 3010 as a course sucks no matter who you take it with. Kloosterman posts his slides online and basically reads them off in class so attendance really isn't necessary. Tests were hard but he curved them very generously. He is a very monotonous lecturer, but since everything is online, it didn't matter too much. Online homework was very easy but the written stuff could get difficult from time to time. Don't take this class unless you have to for Econ major/minor
Weekly hw that doesn't take too long and really helps prepare you for the exams. Kloosterman is knowledgeable in the subject matter and very nice, but lectures fairly straight off his lecture slides so lectures aren't 100% necessary but definitely help. Class in general is difficult but if you have to take it, I'd recommend Kloosterman
Professor Kloosterman is the worst professor I have had at UVa thus far. He is not approachable and when you go to office hours, he is extremely unhelpful and unpleasant. The material itself is not impossible, though he aims to make it so by putting a ridiculous amount of algebra in each problem. The only redeeming part about this class was that the TA, Megan, was very helpful and wanted you to succeed. If you take this class, do not go with Kloosterman, he is the worst.
His lectures weren't really that helpful, and the textbook only helps so much. The practice exams and the homework were not nearly as hard as the exams were; in fact, he designed the exams so students wouldn't finish them. The curves were generous but only because students did so badly. I wouldn't recommend taking the class to non-Econ majors anyways, but I don't think Kloosterman is the guy to take this with.
Kloosterman was great. This is a tough class and it's known for being one of the more challenging Econ courses at UVA. You really learn a lot though and Kloosterman is incredibly fair. He gives a very generous curve and the written homework does a great job preparing you for the exams. Kloosterman does a great job of teaching you what you need to know and his grading policies are better than other professors that teach this course. I'd definitely recommend taking this class with Kloosterman if you have to take Econ 3010.
Kloosterman is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and is an overall great guy. His exams are very long so don't expect to finish early (no one ever finished the exams in my section). The class is hard but if you do good and understand the written homework and do extra practice problems you should be fine. The best study materiel for his exams are the old exams he posts and the written homework, slides and the book don't help that much.
