Professor Pate is my favorite professor from the 80s series. Our class was too small to have a TA, but that wasn't a problem at all, because Professor Pate had so many office hours (he basically had them everyday during weeks when problem sets were due). He understands that if you are in the last semester of the 80s series, you have the drive to learn to material, so he shows you exactly how to do the problems on the psets if you don't know how. He expects that you understand what he did and be able to do it yourself. He's really nice and patient, not to mention good at teaching.
We didn't have a textbook for the class, but the lectures and office hours are sufficient for learning the material. The psets are somewhat lengthy and contain some challenging problems, but there's only 3 psets for the semester. The tests take place during the 50 minute class, so sometimes there wasn't enough time to finish. However, Professor Pate is very fair and generous with points, so if you show some work, you'll get partial credit.
