This class sucks. It is so boring and so hard to follow the millions of derivations in class. The test averages are 60s/70s, and the final average for my class was in the 80s. Homeworks are annoyingly difficult and graded super toughly. I got like 60s/70s on all the homeworks. It just sucks learning derivations in class and being expected to know to apply them on our own for homework and exams. I like Choi tho, I just wish his class wasn't the actual worst. I'm so happy its done
Choi is a great teacher that really knows his stuff - he comes from a Physics background and a lot of his explanations involve a lot of proofs of partial derivatives. Test were challenging but doable, and definitely easier than the problems on Homework sets.
I do highly, highly recommend getting a study group to tackle homework sets together - they're pretty challenging and doing it together helps you learn better!
Choi is really awesome. Hes very smart and taught very well. He tried his best to make sure we had a good conceptual understanding of the material. Honestly this class was easy because everyone did so bad on the tests. I got low 80s on all of them an got an Add-on the class. Too bad he's not teaching next spring.
Choi's first semester teaching and considering how difficult thermodynamics is as a subject in general, he did a great job. I didn't understand why people didn't show up to class because he hand wrote everything on the board which I think is just miles better than power points. At first expected too much out of students but fixed that. Test averages were very low but for the most part (and I'm sure he will get better at this in the coming semesters) followed homework sets. Awesome TA (Brittany) but she is leaving so who knows about that.
Prof. Choi is hardcore about engineering but is genuinely interested in his students and is pretty helpful/receptive to feedback. Overall, he expects a lot from students and really wants them to learn the material as he feels the course work will allow you to be a better engineer. If you go to class and take notes and do the homework you should be fine. Exams are difficult (averages in 50-65 range) but the course grades are adjusted in the end (so don't freak out).
