Not a bad class. You won't need your book. Make sure to do the optional problem sets because they are very representative of the midterm and final (your only two grades in the class!)

Professor Mirman is a disgrace. Even the other Economics Professors dislike him. Some people find him entertaining at first...until over half the class fails the midterm that he only hands back after the drop deadline so nobody can get out of the class. When I took his class, he once threw a temper tantrum, told everyone to "get the %$#% out of the classroom," threw his chalk against the board, and stormed out. Ahhh, the things you can get away with if you have tenure.

Good class with not much work.

Go to class, pay attention, and you'll pass with flying colors. Skip class or sleep through it and you won't be very successful.

Do NOT take this course if you are not majoring in ECON or going to COMM school. The class seems like a good class at first because there are no books and no homework, but the first midterm is so hard, a lot will do poorly. It's much better to take Elzinger's class.

Professor Mirman is virtually impossible to contact outside of class. Make sure you have a good TA before taking this class. He also has a tendency to show more emotion than the average professor.

The class is a math based micro class. There is no discussion section and if you have problems Mirman is not available to help. The content is not very difficult but the tests are very similar to the problem sets that are assigned frequently.

Mirman's lectures were fast-paced, and he didn't use a book, so your notes are all you've got. You absolutely must do the problem sets and go to TA office hours if you don't understand them. If you do the problem sets, you'll do fine on the midterm/final. The only grades you get are for a midterm and the final, though, so they're weighted heavily.

really ez class. Only math needed to know is how to interpret basic middle and high school concepts like slopes and intercepts. 2nd half of the class is slightly more difficult than the first because you have to go to class to hear him explain the concepts, since he doesn't post those readings online.

Midterm and final is pretty much all you do. Do the problem sets and you'll be straight for the midterm and final.
