The class is really interesting and Culver keeps you interested during lecture, but the tests are hard because it's a lot of writing and she is looking for specific answers. Homework is not weekly but she gives a week's notice for it, and it's difficult but doable. Quiz grades are taken as an average of your individual grade and group quiz grade which is helpful, and she explains everything very well. Interesting topics, wide variety of topics.
The beginning of this course is pretty boring (it's basically just chemistry) but gets much more interesting after the first exam. Some of the homeworks were actually pretty cool, since they involved modeling environmental systems in addition to the standard textbook problems. The exams are fairly difficult--Culver looks for specific details from her notes, and she's not kidding when she says you need to pay attention to the current events she lectures about sometimes. But as long as you review her slideshows and try to internalize as much as possible, you'll be fine. Culver herself is a fine professor, and she didn't stand out as either very good or very bad in the classroom. She's good at communicating though, so don't be afraid to email her if you have questions. Overall this was a pretty fun and interesting class!
Professor Culver makes the classes pretty interesting and the class itself is also interesting. The tests are easy if you study your notes and do all of the practice tests. Also, you don't need to worry about current events until the final-- I recommend compiling a summary of all of the events and categorize them by the different topics covered in class. Some of the homeworks can be challenging, but doable. The quizzes are pretty easy too as long as you study; you don't need to take detailed notes.
took it as a non civil engineering major so i found it pretty boring but it was a manageable class. quality of lectures varied. definitely go to office hours to get help, though office hours were pretty disorganized as well. its definitely a lot of content but otherwise tests arent that hard, just know the content as best you can.
This course is overall manageable. There are 5 homework assignments, which can be very large and tedious if you don't understand the course material. I would recommend going to office hours. Also, there are 5 quizzes in the course, which were very easy, just time consuming to study for. The lectures can be a bit dry, but overall the topics later on were interesting. As for the tests, they were all difficult on some level, but she can be forgiving with the written portions and mathematics.
As for the professor, Culver can be a bit blunt when talking to her or emailing her, but don't take it as she is irritated with you. She does appreciate questions but wants her students to understand that in the real world some assumptions have to be made. She also can run through the mathematics in the course pretty fast, but overall, she is very k owledgeable in the subject. While I enjoyed her teaching style, others found the class to be difficult of boring. That's really to your preference.
