I loved Prof Hu! This is the first time he taught this course but I think he did a great job along with his co-professor Prof Sahani.
Hu is VERY kind, empathetic, and cares about his students. He really wants you to succeed in the class and not stress. The average on our first midterm was an A, which is like, unheard of in eschool. Reach out to him if you need any help, accommodations, etc because he’ll absolutely be ready to help.
Some advice: the weekly homeworks take a while, so be ready to start early and go to office hours to check your work.
This class was a whirlwind. It starts off super easy but after the first test it escalates quickly. The material itself isn't awful but the lectures themselves were rarely helpful for me. There are weekly videos to prep the material and easy quizzes to follow them. And then in class the topics would be reviewed and examples would be given. However, I felt that a lot of the time the examples were rushed through or glossed over which made it hard to actually understand the material. There are also weekly homeworks that were much harder than any examples so I recommend going to office hours. One of the huge appeals to this class was the exams, they were usually only 4 problems but they were mostly straightforward, partial credit was given, and you get a ridiculous amount of freedom and space for cheat sheets.
Overall, easy class to pass, harder class to walk away with a good understanding of biomechanics.
The class consists of three units each followed by an exam, meaning the final is not cumulative. There is pre lecture videos where concepts are introduced followed by lectures where Prof. Hu just goes through examples. I found this dynamic to work well, since both are recorded and watching them before the exams is helpful. The homework problems are basically the lecture materials reiterated, however, the exams are only 4 questions and are definitely more challenging and require more thinking.
Prof. Hu is really supportive and genuinely want to see his students succeed. If you have taken any sort of physics before this class should not be that challenging.
My only complain is in regards to the grading scale, as Prof. Hu considers a 95 the threshold for an A, unlike the other BME classes.
