Very enjoyable class, so much more interesting compare to the Physiology 2 class which is right before this one. Prof. Guilford is really knowledgeable and his lectures are fun and interesting. I think I actually learned a great deal through this class, hope to take another one of his class in the future. In the past years, there used to be no tests, just quizzes for each class, but this year we had 3 mid-terms and a final. Tests aren't that difficult, but can be a little tricky. You will learn to do better as the class progresses. He posts his lectures/audio files on collab so before each exam it's always good to listen to those as you review your notes. Great class. Also, Amy (TA) is great too!

The paper is very important to your success in that class. other than that, class is easy

This class was a lot of fun! Dr. Guilford was very enthusiastic and you could tell he was truly into what he was teaching. He gave 10 question quizzes at the beginning of each class which helped keep you on your toes and make sure you really knew what was taught the class before.

Probably one of the best courses in the BME department. Lectures tie concepts of cellular and molecular biology to etiology and pathogenesis of known diseases, exposing students to current applications and prospective research fields. The paper is time-consuming, but it provides a practical experience of writing a scientific paper, which will be helpful in the future as a biomedical engineer. There is no curve for this course, but where is a curve in real life?

Class is not curved. Spend 30-40 minutes to review material before each quiz and you should do well

Quizzes, Quizzes, Quizzes, and more Quizzes. When you take this class I hope you're in the mood for quizzes. You have one every class and it counts for 50% of grade. 40% is a paper that takes mad hours of research and writing to do. And the last measly 10% is of course a multiple choice final exam and don't think for a second that he won't give you your last quiz on the same day as your final! Good class if you like mad work to do for three credits, but then again you have to take the class if your biomed. Karen was great though.

Decent class. You learn a lot of information but it is kind of dry. Daily quizzes which are each worth 2% of your overall grade. Just study the slides he presents in class and you will do fine. There is one HUGE paper worth 40% of your grade. Don't put it off till the last minute.

Very informative and interesting class. Guilford does a great job explaining difficult concepts and the class is very fair. The research paper is a lot of work but definitely doable.

This was a great class, beginning Spring 2009 we didn't have any midterms, just a quiz every day, which made the class much easier to stay on top of, and you learn a lot. There's a significant group review paper that's due at the end of the semester and takes a lot of time, but it's worth it to put the added effort in and get a good grade.

This class is probably one of the most interesting classes that I have ever taken. There are no midterms but there is a clicker quiz every class. He teaches cell biology by tying it into a disease or real-world application.
