This course was great. The professor's lectures are captivating and moving, and he often touches on the poetic aspects of studying space too, which is a good balance. The homework assignments are very light as well. There may be a bit of a learning curve for someone who is completely unaccustomed to STEM classes or any physics/astronomy concepts, but anyone with a decent understanding of basic high school physics should be absolutely fine. Homework assignments consist of a homework worksheet each week, it's comprehensive and a bit long but most of it is explanations of how to do the problems and the worksheets flow in a very engaging way to keep you interested. The course content itself is very interesting, and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in astronomy beyond taking an intro astronomy course, and especially people who are considering an astronomy/astrophysics major (it helped to cement astrophysics for me). It's a great class for first semester students (or any students) who have a prior interest in physics/astronomy and want to learn more in an engaging and thought-provoking way.
Professor Whittle is an awesome professor. He genuinely is so knowledgable about the topic and he is great at keeping attention. His class is also extremely fairly graded and not too hard to catch along. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone, astronomy majors or just people that want to learn more about space!
