To put it simply, Professor Johnson is awesome. He's a great guy who is good at communicating to students what they need to know and what to do in order to be successful. His lectures are interesting, they cover a broad range of topics in the course, and he gives personal anecdotes about different parts of astrophysics. He also talks about current science events in his lectures, which makes what he talks about more relevant and interesting. Additionally, he spends a decent amount of class talking about how the equations that are being used are derived, and how they are pulled from concepts introduced in Physics I and II. I enjoyed this; it made understanding the math a lot more intuitive.
In regard to course structure: two midterm exams, and one final exam that was basically just a third midterm that was not cumulative. The exams were pulled directly from homework and practice problems, and all of these problems were pulled from the textbook for the class. The textbook is great and is used for both Astrophysics I and II.
Weekly homework's, but nothing insane or unreasonable. Both he and the TA were available to talk about how to approach the problems if there was ever any difficulty understanding how to approach something. Weekly discussions were optional (but HIGHLY recommended), and often went over homework problems for that week or other practice problems. The TA when I took this course would also allow us to request certain problems to be gone over.
All in all - great course, great instructor, if you like astronomy, physics, and math, this class is the dream.
