Great course! I thought this semester was easier than 1010 and I could definitely see that I was learning a lot more. Conversation skills greatly improved. I highly recommend going to the signing lunches, tutoring sessions, and forming a study group that meets before quizzes and exams. I loved Greg but I have heard that all the professors are amazing! I would recommend staying with the same professor you had for 1010 (makes it easier for the receptive quizzes) but it is not a big deal if you have to switch. Definitely recommend this class! Reasonable grading and it is possible to do well in this class if you spend time reviewing the vocabulary and practicing. I felt extremely well prepared for the midterm and final (Greg does a great job of giving exam review sheets and allowing time to practice during drill)! It is very important to do the readings for the quizzes and to review the vocabulary but if you do this you will do well!
I was lucky enough to stay with Greg for both 1010 and 1020 classes, and I am super grateful for it now in 2010. Again, Greg will challenge you and he definitely teaches quite a lot of material, and the Directions unit was particularly difficult on zoom but overall the class was amazing as usual. Doing LL's bit by bit as early as possible is definitely important to stay on top of the material. I also cannot recommend enough a solid study group to get through this class! It isn't extremely difficult, but all of the units are connected and in order to build on your learning you really need to have an understanding of each unit as they go by. Never be afraid to stay after class to ask questions, he is so sweet and genuine. He really wants to see people put in an effort and reach the potential that he knows you can.
I loved this class and I love Greg as a professor. This class felt significantly easier than ASL 1010... I don't know if that is because my skill improved or I just felt better about the material, but it is definitely worth taking with Greg. Class can be really fun, especially during group activities or games, and I felt that I learned a lot everyday. Definitely go to signing lunch and any other ASL events because they help your skill! Greg is super understanding and really works with you, especially if you have a conflict or something. For drill, I recommend Jenny. The class is really late, but she is the sweetest lady ever and really helps you understand what is going on. I 100% recommend this class!
Overall, really enjoyed this class. It's very important to go to class. Doing the exercises in the workbook are helpful, but not really necessary. The signing lunches on Fridays are really helpful! It gives you the chance to practice signing with other people. There are Language Labs and SAVs (where you have to record yourself signing), just like with 1010. The reading was usually pretty light. Quizzes can be hard sometimes and he can get picky about somethings. But overall a great class and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in ASL and the Deaf Community!
Greg Propp was a very enthusiastic teacher, and made the material interesting and going to class fun. He is very poor administratively, in that he returns quizzes and other assignments weeks or even months late. Several assignments I never got back. His grading is a bit unpredictable. Nonetheless, class was exciting and he was an effective lecturer. Recommended.
