Pretty awesome class, material was interesting (when I did actually go to class) but I really enjoyed my discussion with Mary Bleech - interactive and fun ways to engage with the material we learned in class. Exams were difficult and required knowing enough to apply the knowledge, but were overall not that bad - I put pretty minimal effort in and just listened and enjoyed and I did fine. thumbs up
This course has definitely been improved since it was last taught and I loved it so much. The material is really interesting, covers multiple perspectives, and each topic connect seamlessly with the next. Danziger is a wonderful lecturer and creates a very inviting environment for students to chime in during class.
The readings for each lecture are pretty short and the assignments are relatively simple and even fun. The exams are also very doable as long as you pay attention in class. Don't be scared by the older reviews, it's a really good class!
This course was very "preachy" about concepts that aren't agreed upon by modern scholars. Presented "scientific evidence" which consisted of arbitrarily interpreted case studies and uncontrolled experiments. Danziger would not listen to differing viewpoints or factual information which contradicted her own opinions.
I thought the class was really interesting..it's a cross-section of linguistics, psychology, and cognitive science. The readings can be pretty dry and extensive at times...I thought it was still worthwhile to read them on time because the tests cover lectures and readings. The tests are a little hard and tricky, but not terrible.
