Although it was not necessarily challenging, I hated this class. The homework assignments took a really long time to finish and often required code that we hadn't learned in class. The book for SAS was helpful, but the book for R not so much. The class has 2 quizzes (really more like midterms) and a final exam, all 3 of which were open book, open note. However, if you have an online version of the book, he will not let you use it. Though annoying, I understood why, my problem was that he did not tell us far enough in advance for those of us with online copies to get a hard copy before the first quiz. I wish this had been stated at the very beginning of the semester so that I did not have to buy the books twice.
Pham really isn't a great professor, but he doesn't need to be for this course. It's easy enough, if you take the time to understand what you're doing while completing the homework assignments. The quizzes were incredibly easy (partly due to being open book), but the final was much more specific and thus more difficult. Overall not a bad course, but I learned less than I should have.
