Prof. Piriz-Moguel was pretty good. She speaks a little fast sometimes, but she does care a lot about her students. The grading and assignments are the same as the rest of the dept, so that isn't really on her. The dept gave "tokens" this semester for covid, so you could use one for missing a class, late work, retakes, etc. She spoke in English every now and then, but the dept does make her speak Spanish more at this level class. Def recommend sending her emails to clarify if you weren't sure what she said during class bc she emails back in English. The dept changed the syllabus a little this semester for COVID, so it's partly chapter quizzes, Connect assignments, a midterm, final, and "mis habilidades." The "Mis Habilidades" were p annoying and basically busy work, but sometimes you'd have to meet w a classmate to record a convo, or sometimes you'd write essays based on the chapter's vocab list.
#tCF2020
It wouldn't let me choose this but I took her class in Fall 2024. Let me be clear: this class is HARD – very hard – especially if you are returning to Spanish study after some time. There's a decent amount of textbook-based homework and the grammar concepts are sometimes hard to grasp. That being said, Ana is a VERY accommodating professor and I recommend taking this class with her if possible, especially if you need to take 2020 for a credit. If you don't need or really want to take Spanish, I might save yourself the time and the GPA deflator (you need a 95.5% for an A), though.
Prof. Moguel was a great professor to take SPAN2020 with. She is very nice, easy to work with, and cares about her students. The course material is set by the Spanish department, so she does not have much control over it. The work consists of weekly grammar lessons, practice assignments, three exams, a cultural activity, and a cultural project. The homework is not difficult as you get three attempts to do each assignment. The exams were not so bad as long as you studied the vocabulary and grammar topics -- there were no trick questions. The cultural activity consists of going to an event and being able to speak about it for two minutes, and the cultural project is broken into 5 steps, most of which consist of a written draft in class and then correcting it at home. Overall, if you have a choice as to with whom you take SPAN2020, I suggest Prof. Moguel.
